Wind Power Costs For Homeowners

Written By Your Friend on Thursday, November 24, 2011 | 7:52 AM

The wind power costs associated with wind turbines are driven by several key elements:
1. What you make them out of
2. Total amount of electricity you want to create
3. The variety of windmill

While there are a lot of smaller wind turbines on the market available in the $600-$800 range, they are made of inexpensive materials like plastics and might not have the resiliency that is required in stronger wind conditions. Bigger wind turbines however, are usually made of a metal exterior and therefore a lot more resistant to the fast and turbulent wind speeds one finds in many open spaces.

What that typically means for you is you need to gauge the strength of the materials in light of the wind environment you will be placing the turbine in. If you are putting one on the roof of your house where the air is chaotic, then very lightweight materials probably won't be your ticket.

While larger turbines can cost millions, their cost on a per kilowatt basis is quite low when compared to their smaller cousins. As an example, small wind turbines can cost upwards of $3,000 - $5,000 per kilowatt to install.

If you are interested in providing power for a small business or a large home, a windmill that size may cost $40,000-$50,000, for instance. You also need to make sure you don't just include the turbine you are buying in your analysis. In many cases, you will need a tower on which to mount the turbine high enough in the atmosphere to take advantage of the best wind.

The larger the bank of batteries you have to charge, the smaller the wind turbine - usually.

The kind of windmill you pick also makes a big difference in determining wind power costs. The 2 kinds you can buy are vertical-axis and horizontal-axis. Horizontals are a lot cheaper because there are more of them sold and there are a lot more of them out there at this point.

Also, the vertical wind turbine is more expensive because they typically operate in more chaotic wind areas where that environment can be a lot more damaging to a windmill.

Vertical-axis turbines are all the rage now. They look very sleek and have a small footprint. If you have limited space this type of turbine is just what the doctor ordered. But, because of these factors they are currently WAY more expense.

Summarizing, wind turbine costs are driven by a huge number of design and style elements. Thus, you need to be very careful to make sure you are sizing a turbine that meets your requirements and not just buying a nice new shiny decoration for your property.

Taking Care of Your Induction Cooktop

Written By Your Friend on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 | 7:50 AM

Induction cooktops have two main characteristics that make them the future of cooking in the 21st century. First of all, they are very efficient. When cooking using induction, you do not have to worry about overheating your environment and wasting energy. They do not produce any flames and therefore less carbon dioxide is produced. This is an earth-friendly means of cooking compared to the other conventional means of cooking. Induction is a method that uses electricity and magnetism to heat the cookware which then cooks the food. The electric current helps to generate heat by the magnetic field created by the metal. They do not use a lot of energy to heat the surface of the pan, this makes it easier for the user to cook and save money at the same time. To add to their efficiency, they are very cheap and can be bought at less than $100. Buying induction cooktops may be a challenge in itself especially if you have never used this appliance before. Always make sure you have tried out the induction cooktops before buying them. Ask for a demonstration of how it works before buying it. Always ensure that you have one that has been made for home use. Over time, there have been many brands of cooktops made for home use although initially this was a model made for restaurant use.

Induction cooking is a form of flameless cooking that has tens of advantages over the conventional means of cooking. First of all, induction cooking is much safer and faster than the conventional means of cooking. It does not waste as much heat as other kinds of cooking methods; since it heats just the pan alone. It has the same level of performance as a gas cooking element and the level of control of the cooktop is just the same as that of the gas. Only the pan generates heat; meaning that it is one of the safest means of cooking. Taking care of the induction cooktop can be easy, but it is important to follow instructions especially when you are cleaning them.

the cooktop surface has to be cleaned everyday by using a commercial ceramic cleaner. Some recommendations of brands may have been given to you already by the cooktop brand. All that matters is the performance of the ceramic cleaner since it needs to clean the ceramic top well enough. Ensure that you have used a soft material for removing any dirt that may have stuck in the surface. The whole idea of removing dirt that may have stuck in the surface is to ensure that induction is not compromised. Spills and other residues on the surface of the cooktop may require you to clean when the surface is warm so as to remove the spillage faster. Remove and residue that is stuck by scraping off the residue; wait for the surface to cool of first before scraping and use a scraper that has been designed for the glass top to avoid scratching the surface of the cooktop.

Embrace Induction Cooking for a Safer Experience

Written By Your Friend on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 | 7:49 AM

Safety when cooking is one of the major considerations when one is cooking in the home. When you have kids in the house, you want to make sure they are safe when you are cooking and even when they are old enough to cook for themselves. Children are not the only safety considerations when you are cooking in the home, you may have the elderly or sick people in your house who need to be kept safe as well. Using fireless cooking methods like induction cooking is one way of ensuring that all the vulnerable people in your household are kept from harms way. Safety is a reasonable consideration as well as the comfort of the people in your home when you are cooking. Using a method of cooking that overheats the house will not help much with the comfort of the people in your home, and this is the reason you need to embrace the much safer means of cooking; induction cooking.

Induction cooking is an alternative that uses electricity to heat the bottom of the cookware you are using. When the surface of the induction cook top brings the electric current to the pan, it gets hot and cooks the food in the pan. It is important for the cookware to be magnetic; hence the need to invest in some induction cookware beforehand. The heat that is generated from induction cooking heats the pan and does not go into the environment. This means that induction cooking does not waste energy compared to electric cookers whose heat goes into the environment. You do not have to worry about any flames that may pose a danger to the children and elderly in your home. You can rest easy when your kids are home alone and even when they are old enough you can be sure that they can cook on their own without being put in harms way.

Induction cooking is cheaper since induction cook tops are much cheaper now than they ever did. Several years ago, this form of cooking was almost an exotic means of cooking that was not the preserve of many people. With time there has been a change and induction cooking has become a means of cooking for anyone who wants to save a lot of money for himself. Consider the size of budget that you have and ensure that you buy a cook top that is within your budget range. Ensure that you have the right number of induction cookware when you want to start induction cooking since you will need cookware made of magnetic material for induction to take place. Choose the right brands of cookware; ensuring that you have read the reviews of buyers who have been in your shoes before. If you will be cooking by induction most of the time, you will have to invest in more cookware for this purpose. Buy a cook top that you can comfortably house; in other words make sure that you have enough space in your home for your new induction cooktop.

Cooking by Induction

Written By Your Friend on Monday, November 21, 2011 | 7:47 AM

Induction cookers are selling for a fraction of the price they sold with some few years ago and this has been said to be the future of cooking. With people looking for alternative means of saving money by using less energy in their homes, induction cooking has become one of the best solutions to cooking in the current era. The advantage of this is that you can get yourself an induction cooker for less than $100.

Induction cooking is done by cast iron because of the magnetism principle that goes hand in hand with it. Overall, any cookware that is magnetic can be used for induction cooking and the best way to determine this is to ask or simply find out if the bottom is magnetic. For those who understand physics-talk, induction involves the stirring of the molecules in the cookware, which then creates heat and which cooks the food in the pan. The hobs do not create the heat and this means you do not have to invest a lot in electricity. The only heat that is generated in this type of cooking comes from the cookware after induction has started. You can always control the heat of the pan by using the controls in the pan.

You do not have to worry about the induction cook top heating your living space like when you have electric or gas cookers, since the cook-top can only heat the cooking pan. For those who have decided to make the change to inducting cooking, it will come with a new expense-that of buying new cookware for your induction cooking. There is not so much of an expense in buying new cookware since there has been a decrease in the price of induction cookware thanks to the increasing demand for induction cookware. The prices of this cookware vary from brand to brand and depending on the number of cookware you want to buy, you will spend a relatively small amount of money.

There are many advantages of induction cooking; first, it is relatively safer than gas or electricity and in the current economic times, it is the cheaper means of cooking. With the safety measures that have to be put in place when cooking using gas or electricity, there is no better means of cooking than induction cooking. Given the fact that you will not be using a lot of electricity when using induction cooking, you will not spend any more money on electricity bills and gas bills. Even with the new expense of getting yourself cookware, it will be a good investment that will be worth every single cent you spend on them. Cooking by induction is fast, since it heats the pans very fast and cooks your food even faster. Make sure you have compared all the prices available in the market, especially among dealers who sell cookware online. Check out the brands that have been in the market for some time and figure out the best possible brand from among those that have been in the market for some time.

Refrigerator Features You Can't Live Without

Written By Your Friend on Sunday, November 20, 2011 | 7:46 AM

When shopping for your new refrigerator you will learn the more you pay the more features you get. Some features are more important than others and worth paying more for. I will go over the features worth looking for and paying extra for in each category.

When shopping for a traditional top mount refrigerator you will want to make sure your new refrigerator has two separate crisper drawers with adjustable humidity controls, separate freezer section and refrigerator section temperature controls, a deli drawer, spill proof glass shelves to contain spills, and a shelf in the freezer. If the model you are looking at does not have a factory installed Ice maker, one can usually be added as an accessory for under $100. You will also want to make sure the door swings open the way you want it to. Most models are equipped with reversible doors and a dealer will reverse them for you for a small fee. Most stainless steel models do not have reversible doors so pay close attention to this if you are buying a stainless steel refrigerator.

Side by sides and Bottom freezer models can be a little more complicated. On models equipped with an external ice and water dispenser, you will want to make sure there is plenty of room to get a large glass or even a pitcher under the dispenser. Like a traditional top mount you will want to make sure it has glass shelves, separate temperature controls for the freezer and fresh food sections, at least two separate crisper drawers with adjustable humidity controls, and a deli drawer. Another nice feature to have which is included on most higher end models including the popular 4 door refrigerator is dual evaporators. This prevents food odors from being passed back and forth from the freezer to the refrigerator and creates optimum humidity in the refrigerator while cutting down on freezer burn in the freezer. A door alarm to let you know the door is not shut all the way is nice if you have children that frequently leave the door open. A child lock that prevents unsupervised children from changing the temperature controls is also nice if you have small children that like to play with buttons. Quick freeze is a great feature to have if you plan on storing items in the freezer for long periods of time. This feature freezes things faster to seal in flavor and helps reduce freezer burn. When purchasing a french door or 4 door refrigerator, you will want to make sure it has a pull out drawer at the bottom instead of a door that swings out. Most models have drawers these days but there are a few still being manufactured with swing out doors to cut down on cost. A digital temperature control that shows actual temperature instead of a setting that goes from 0-9 is also very nice to have so you can know exactly what temperature you are setting the freezer and refrigerator. If you entertain a lot you may want to make sure the refrigerator is equipped with quick ice or extra ice. When this feature is selected the ice maker kicks into high gear and makes twice as much ice as normal.

Importance of A Good Appliance Repair Technician

Written By Your Friend on Saturday, November 19, 2011 | 7:43 AM

There are many different problems that occur with large appliances. Listed below are some of the most common problems, and reasons why you need to make sure you've hired a good appliance repair technician to fix them.

CLOTHES DRYERS: A clogged dryer vent is a common problem. "My dryer is not heating" is a regular complaint. This actually can be serious. Each year in the U.S. clogged vents cause over 50,000 fires. This is an issue that needs to be handled by a trained repairman who is an expert in repairing clogged vents. With the right appliance repair expert your dryer will be heating up again like the day it was purchased!

WASHING MACHINES: In many of the new front-loading washing machines, the rubber "boots" (rubber gasket) around the door become moldy. These front-loading machines are super because they use less water, as the water level does not have to fill to the top like in a conventional machine. Most manufacturers' now offer front-loading machines like Maytag washers, Neptune washers, and Whirlpool Elite washers, however, they are more expensive than top loaders. You don't want to risk breaking such an expensive machine by trying to fix it yourself. Most appliance technicians have received the proper training to clean the rubber boot of your front-loading washer, taking care to ensure its integrity and to spare you the expensive of replacing the boot. After, the repair is complete, the customer is advised to use an "Affresh" tablet regularly, to abate this problem. If your washing machine is not draining properly, stops mid-cycle, or if the detergent dispenser is broken, our technician can make a house call within a few hours to fix the problem.

REFRIGERATOR: Refrigerators come in different configurations. Those with coils underneath the unit should be cleaned every two or three years. If the coils are on top, they should be cleaned annually. If the coils of your refrigerator are on the back of the unit, dust and dirt on the coils need to be cleaned and removed. If not cleaned regularly, the build up of dust and dirt will cause the compressor to overheat. This will cause the unit to shut down causing the food in your refrigerator to spoil which would be costly.

STOVES / RANGE: Gas stoves have a common problem affecting the "glow bar" (the bake or broiler igniters). These become weak after repeated use and must be fixed in order to ignite the gas-stove element. On electric stoves, the top elements sometimes go out. Removing the elements to clean food out of their sockets can result in the element burning out; sometimes the block gets burned out as well. This is a common problem that a competant appliance repair man will be skilled at repairing.

DISHWASHER: Frequently, a dishwasher's water valve will get clogged due to minerals in the water. A build up of deposits may also appear on the valve screen. These can, in many cases, be professionally cleaned. Sometimes the valve needs to be replaced. Another customer complaint is that the interior sides of their dishwasher get slimy. The use of white vinegar, while running a dishwashing cycle, remedies the problem. So, if your dishwasher isn't cleaning properly, or you notice water leftover at the end of a cycle, or the soap dispenser is broken, a good technician should will arrive at your home within a few hours to make the repair.

These are just a few examples of the appliance repair needs that expert technicians routinely repair. Need a recommendation on a good appliance repair NYC technician? Solar Powered Fans - Harness the Power of the Sun

Written By Your Friend on Friday, November 18, 2011 | 7:40 AM

The humble fan has come a long way. During its initial years, it was expensive, large and bulky. The fan has been around for so long and has yet not been tagged obsolete. This is certainly due to the constant evolution and refinements according to the changing needs of the people and technological advances in the fields of electronics, material sciences and design. The fan has successfully kept us cool for over a century.

Today, if you decide to venture out to the market looking for fans, you are bound to find a pleasant range of different fans. Based on the functionality, though all fans are designed to keep you cool, each one tries to adapt to a different environment. Conventional ceiling fans keep you cool at home, whereas outdoor ceiling fans aim at providing you a cool breeze while you are out on the porch on a hot summer afternoon. Portable fans are also catching on, providing you cool breeze in places where power supply is either irregular or unavailable.

The battery-powered fan is gaining popularity these days. These are battery operated and last for long periods of time. The battery can be easily replaced, which facilitates long life.

Solar powered fans are also in vogue these days. These fans have been in the news for their tremendous reliability and environmental friendliness. In situations where conventional forms of power cannot be provided to the fan, we adopt batteries to power the fan. Sooner or later, the battery would get consumed and come to a standstill. This can be tackled by either carrying backup alkaline batteries or by employing rechargeable batteries. Even in case of rechargeable batteries, a reliable power source is required to recharge the batteries. Considering that there are parts of the world where cooling is essential but are without a constant supply of power, solar power can be harnessed to solve the problem. This provides us with ideally a non-exhaustible source of power to run our fans and other essential electrical appliances indefinitely.

Attic fans can be powered by solar panels placed on the roof. Solar powered fan kits come in all sizes. If the attic has a glass covering that allows sunlight to pass through, enough solar power can be harnessed to turn the attic into a solar-powered attic. If the vent area of the roof is large enough to allow ample sunshine to pass through, the attic can be converted into a solar attic that can power appliances in the home. There are large ones powerful enough to manage a small room. Solar powered fans for greenhouses are a reality even now. And there are ones small enough to fit on the brim of your hat. Solar-powered personal hat fans are a really handy tool. It incorporates portability and functionality in an almost seamless manner.

Appliance Shopping Online Made Easy

Written By Your Friend on Thursday, November 17, 2011 | 7:39 AM

If you are currently shopping for new appliances for your kitchen, the internet is an excellent choice. There are many online retailers and review sites to help you in making your choice, whether you're shopping for a small appliance like a toaster or coffee maker, or new range or refrigerator. Information about the unique items to consider when purchasing online, including the more popular vendors, and how to compare appliances so as to find one that best suits your needs, will be addressed in this article.

Online Appliance Shopping: Unique and Special Items to Consider

Online purchasers of appliances have some specific things to consider that retailer purchases do not. Perhaps the biggest advantage to online shopping for appliances such as refrigerators is that the whole world is your shopping oyster. Vendors near and far are at your disposal. Conversely, one must keep in mind that a refrigerator purchase from half-way around the world could entail some steep shipping costs.

The dimensions of the appliance are also important for you to consider when buying online. The last thing you want is a refrigerator that's too big for the cabinet space, so make sure that you look at the specs when shopping online. If you can't find the dimensions, then you might want to consider calling their customer service-or simply moving onto the next site.

This simple precaution will save you a lot of hassle. Really, who wants to go through the time and expense of shipping something back to the vendor if it doesn't fit? Such a mistake can do some serious damage to the pocketbook... Let's not forget that you've already paid to have it shipped to your house, then you'll pay to ship it back, but then again you'll pay all over for the appliance that does fit.

Online Vendors of Appliances

You can't throw a rock on the internet without hitting an appliance retailer... Many of these retailers also maintain traditional brick and mortar stores. But their online stores makes it even easier to shop for them. Lowe's, Best Buy and Home Depot are some of the more popular sellers, but definitely not the cheapest.

Regardless, since the space on a webpage is almost unlimited, as opposed to floor space which is very limited, the variety of appliances you'll find online far exceeds that in the stores themselves. Every single appliance you can think of is found online, and in vast abundance, from gas and electric ranges, to induction cooktops, washers, dryers, dishwashers, french door refrigerators, side-by-side refrigerators, top drawer fridges, you name it, and it's online. As for delivery, you often have the option of in-home delivery, or getting the fridge shipped to the store for pick-up.

How to Shop Online for Your Appliance

Even if you're ultimately going to buy your refrigerator or range from a brick and mortar store, online dealers have a lot of useful information on their sites that you can and should take advantage of. Even the regular brick and mortar shops have an online presence which has the same appliances that they'll have right on the floor. This give buyers the chance to see if the brick and mortar has appliances in stock, so that they can visit the store to see the model in person.

Before going to the store, you can print out the specs for the different appliances your interested in, and use the specs to hone in on a model and to ask questions of the sales rep. This saves a ton of time, as otherwise you'd have to go from store to store to gather this type of comparison info. The amount of time to be saved cannot be underestimated. This goes double for those retailers that are not in close proximity to each other.

Are you shopping for a new refrigerator, but afraid to buy the wrong one? Then one of the Uline refrigerators might be right for you. Uline makes some of the best fridges on the market today. To see some of our reviews, click http://ulinerefrigerators.net.
